HEALING HEARTS ACROSS BORDERS (HHAB)
Mission trip to Mexico- Spring Semester 2017
During the Spring 2017 semester, 17 students in the Masters in Biomedical Sciences participated in 3 mission trips to Tijuana, Mexico as an optional activity within the MBS 590 Topics in Urban & Global Medicine course taught by Dr. Lejeune Lockett.
Valuing the importance of experiential learning, she arranged this opportunity through Healing Hearts Across Borders (HHAB). Dr. Dave Rose, HHAB Director, is a retired faculty member from UC San Diego Medical School. Each month, he organizes clinic trips across the border to provide medical services, clothing, food and resources to the under-resourced population. CDU students joined a team of volunteer medical personnel (physicians, dentists, nurses and pharmacists), students from other universities both in the US and Mexico, humanitarians and translators to visit a homeless men’s shelter called “La Roca.”
The CDU students wrote about their experiences and we include some of the stories for you to enjoy.
